Whatnot Live Analytics: what the numbers do not say
Whatnot Live Analytics is a web panel for sales and attention. It does not grade whether your overlay or board is readable.
On this page
Whatnot Live Analytics tells you what the room did while you were live: sales, attention, new versus returning, and how those moved. It does not tell you that the overlay looks professional. A readable board can sit in a quiet room. A messy board can sit in a busy one. If you want a picture grade, screenshot the frame. If you want the counts, open the panel.
Definitions move. Read Whatnot's live performance help before you treat a label in this post as the spec. The panel is on the web show (whatnot.com), not a full substitute for the smaller show stats on the phone. This article will not pretend a dip in viewers is always a bad graphic.
| Signal | Use it for | Do not use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Viewers over time | Whether a moment held or dumped the room | Proof the overlay is well designed |
| Orders per hour | Whether the fill is speeding up or dying while you can still react | A grade of your thumbnail |
| Average watch time | Whether people stay past the join | Which color to pick |
| Live vs shop sales | Whether the show or the shop is doing the work | Whether the board cells are large enough |
| Follower growth | Which moment earned follows. Unfollows may not show. | A reason to add more motion |
Open it where Whatnot actually draws it
Go live on the web if you want this panel. Whatnot's own write-up says Live Analytics appears on whatnot.com. Pop the panel out if you need it beside the show instead of hunting a widget. Confirm the current control names on their help page. Do not wait for the same charts inside a scene in OBS. They are not an overlay.
Skip Live Analytics as a design tool on a night you are alone on the phone and cannot look at a second screen. Use show stats if that is all the app gives you, and judge the picture with a screenshot after. Two jobs. Two tools.
Pair a dip with what was on camera
When viewers drop, note the beat. Were you on a BRB with no end time? Did a hit animation cover the card? Did you change product without changing the board? Write the beat next to the dip after the show. A dip during a long silence is pacing. A dip the moment a full-screen graphic fires might be the graphic. One night is not a law.
Orders slowing down is often the product or the price, not the font. Do not order a new kit because orders per hour fell during a weak box. Do look at the board if chat spent that hour asking which spots were open. The panel will not say 'your type is too small.' Chat will.
A pretty frame is not a retention strategy. People stay for the product, the pace, and the trust. Graphics only stop you from hiding those.
New versus returning is not a redesign brief
Whatnot's audience view is there to show reach and mix, including new and returning buyers. A room of regulars can look quiet and still be healthy. A spike of new viewers who leave in a minute may be the thumb promising a product you are not ripping. Check the listing before you blame the overlay. Listing match: Whatnot listings.
Follower growth, per their trends notes, is for seeing which moment earned follows. It is a bad reason to add confetti. If follows arrive when you show the hit clearly, repeat the clear hold, not a louder sting.
A post-show pass that stays honest
- Screenshot the live frame from a phone. Grade the picture with your eyes.
- On the web recap or the panel notes you kept, mark one dip and one spike.
- Write what the camera was doing at each. Product, BRB, graphic, or silence.
- Change one thing next show. Not the kit, the thumb, and the pace together.
- If the picture is the failure, fix the picture. Run of show if the failure was pace.
Pelican does not read your Seller Hub and we do not sell analytics. We build show files. If the screenshot shows the card covered, that is the job. If the screenshot is clean and the room was quiet, do not hire a new frame to chase a chart. Longer-range numbers live in Seller Analytics, which is a different Whatnot page. Confirm both before you mix their labels.
A first-minute dip that was the listing
You open the panel Whatnot documents for live performance and see a pile of people leave in the first minute. The overlay is the thing you can see, so it gets the blame. Look at the minute itself before you redraw anything. What was on camera, what did the thumb promise, and what did you say in the first sentence.
A common pair: the thumb is a chase card from a previous hit, the table is a base-heavy product, and the frame is readable. The dip is the promise, not the type. Remake the thumb and fix the title. Leave the frame. Another pair: the frame covers the card and the product is honest. Then the picture is the failure, and a new font color will not help. Screenshot the covered card and fix that region.
New viewers and returning viewers are not a redesign brief. A room of regulars can look quiet and still be the buyers who actually pay. A spike of new people who leave in a minute often means the tile sold a show you are not running. Check the listing against the table. Then decide whether any file has to change.
| What the panel shows | Check this first | Do not do |
|---|---|---|
| People leave in the first minute | Thumb, title, and the first thing on camera | Order a new kit because the line went down |
| The card is hard to see in the still | The overlay hole and the cam crop | Add motion to distract from the crop |
| Almost everyone in the room is returning | Whether the regulars can still read the board | Treat a quiet regular room as a failure |
| A later dip during the rip | Whether the hit plate covered the card name | Blame the open graphic for a moment an hour in |
Write one line after the show: the dip, the picture, the change. If you cannot name the picture, you are not ready to hire. Live Analytics does not grade readability. It shows what the room did. You still have to look at the frame. Confirm the current panel names on Whatnot's help before you quote a label from memory.
FAQ
Does Whatnot Live Analytics show if my overlay looks good?
No. It shows performance and audience counts on the web live view. Look at a phone screenshot to judge the overlay.
Where do I open Live Analytics?
On the web show at whatnot.com, per Whatnot's help. Do not expect the full panel inside OBS or as a graphic we design.
Why did viewers drop in the first minute?
Check the thumb and the first picture. A mismatch dumps people. So does a long opening with no product. The chart will not name which.
Should I redesign when average watch time is low?
Not first. Watch the show. If the product is late, the board is wrong, or the listing lied, fix that. A new font will not hold someone who came for a different rip.
Can a graphics studio improve these numbers?
Only by making the show readable and honest. We cannot promise watch time. If the frame already passes a phone test, spend the effort on the product and the pace.
Send a phone screenshot plus the minute people left through Free Audit, or post both in Discord. Service home: Whatnot stream setup.
