Hobby weekend breaker notes for Whatnot sellers
Label each show on a hobby weekend so Saturday's break is not Sunday's singles. Thumbs, boards, and chat have to name the product.
On this page
A hobby weekend on Whatnot fails when three shows share one thumbnail and one board. Buyers cannot tell the Saturday break from the Sunday singles, so they enter the wrong room or they wait for a product you are not ripping. The job is labeling. Not a new logo for the weekend.
This note is for breakers and card sellers who go live more than once across a hobby weekend, a release weekend, or a convention-adjacent stretch. It is not a rebrand plan. Pace a look change in rebrand a Whatnot show. Here: one weekend, several shows, zero costume changes.
| Show | Thumb must say | Board must say | Do not reuse |
|---|---|---|---|
| Team break | Format, product, date | Open vs claimed spots | Yesterday's filled grid |
| Singles | What the stack actually is | None, or a short queue | A 32-team break board |
| Surprise or hit night | The rule in four words | Hits only if you show them | A thumb that promises a break you are not running |
Write the weekend down before you design anything
Open a note. One line per show: day, time, format, product, what is not included. If you cannot finish the line, you are not ready to make the thumb. A pretty graphic on an unnamed show is how regulars show up for the wrong rip.
Skip the special weekend theme if the product name is the only thing that matters. 'Hobby weekend' on a thumb, with no product, is a poster. Buyers buy the product.
Thumbs are the schedule
Each show gets its own 1080 x 1920 thumb. Same logo, same colors, different product line. Put the day or the start time on it if you are running twins. A buyer scrolling should not need your chat to know which one they clicked.
Skip a matching set of thumbs when you only have one show. Do not invent a Friday-Saturday-Sunday system for a single night. The checklist for one thumb: Whatnot show thumbnail checklist.
Reset the board between shows
A claimed board from show one, left up for show two, sells spots you already sold. Before you end the first show, screenshot the finished board if you need a record, then load the next file. Name the OBS scenes with the show, not 'BOARD'.
If you do not run OBS, you do not have a layered board to swap. Say the next product out loud and change the listing. Do not pretend a weekend kit exists inside the phone app. Scene habits: Whatnot stream setup.
Chat rhythm when the schedule slips
Hobby weekends slip. A box is late. A show runs long. The graphic has to tell the truth faster than a paragraph in chat. If you are still in the break, the thumb for the next show should not already say LIVE. If you cancelled singles, pull that listing. A stale promise is worse than a plain 'next show time' end card.
One blunt rule: do not hype a product you cannot put on camera in this show. Move it to the next line on the schedule and change the art.
A Friday pass you can actually finish
- List the shows in order. Format and product on each line.
- Export one thumb per show. Same brand, honest title.
- Export one board per break. Leave singles without a team grid.
- Name OBS scenes after the show. Hide yesterday's board.
- In the last five minutes, put the next show name on the end card. Not a new logo.
Who should skip a custom weekend kit: a seller with one show and a working frame. Who should not skip the labeling even if the art stays the same: anyone going live twice. Pelican builds the files. We do not run the schedule or update claims while you are live.
The note you send the other breaker
If someone else is on camera, send them the same line you put on the thumb. Product, format, what you are not ripping. A co-host who prepared the other show will narrate the wrong product while your graphic tells the truth, and chat will believe the voice.
Pin that line. Do not pin a paragraph about the hobby. When the show slips, edit the pin and the end card together. Leaving Friday's pin up on Saturday is the same mistake as the wrong thumb.
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as three listings
Write the weekend down before you design anything. Friday is one product and one format. Saturday is the next. Sunday is the next. If two of them are the same rip, they can share a layout and they still need their own title. If only one show exists, do not invent a three-day system. One thumb, one board, one pin.
Thumbs are the schedule. A buyer scrolling Saturday should not see Friday's hero. Same name, same colors, different product facts. Reset the board between shows. Yesterday's claimed cells on today's grid are how someone bids a spot you already sold on a different night. The reset is part of ending the show, not part of starting the next one when you are already late.
When a time moves, change the tile and the pin together. A co-host needs the same line that is on the thumb: product, format, what you are not ripping. If they prepared the other show, they will narrate it, and chat will believe the voice over the graphic. Send them the line. Do not send them a paragraph about the hobby.
| Weekend habit | What it causes | Do this instead |
|---|---|---|
| One thumb for all three shows | Saturday sells Friday's product | One thumb per show. Same family. |
| The board left as it ended | Open cells that are already gone | Reset before you leave the chair |
| A new overlay for the weekend | Regulars think the shop changed | Keep the kit. Change the words. |
| Friday's pin still up on Saturday | The exclusion is for the wrong rip | Rewrite the pin when you rewrite the title |
This is not a seasonal theme. A hobby weekend is a cluster of shows. If the inventory itself is the season, that is a longer calendar and a different post. Here the job is zero costume changes and zero leftover files. If the schedule slips, say what is left and show it. Do not add a product you have not put on a tile.
FAQ
How should I prep Whatnot shows for a hobby weekend?
Write one line per show, then make one thumb and one board per line. Keep the brand. Change the product name. Reset claimed spots before the next show.
Can I use one thumbnail for the whole weekend?
Only if it is honestly one show. Two products under one thumb is how people join the wrong room.
Do I need a new overlay for a hobby weekend?
No. A new overlay is a rebrand. A weekend needs labels. If regulars already know the frame, keep it.
What if a show time moves?
Change the thumb and the end card before you change the mood. Chat can explain. The graphic should not still advertise the old time.
Is this the same as a seasonal theme?
No. Seasonal work is a longer calendar. A hobby weekend is a cluster of shows. See seasonal selling on Whatnot if the inventory itself is the season.
Send the weekend list and one recent show link through Free Audit, or paste the schedule in Discord.
