Sold, giveaway, and pull overlays for Whatnot
Sold, giveaway, and pull are three different Whatnot events. Give them three plates. One animation for all three trains chat to clap at the wrong time.

Sold, giveaway, and pull overlays for Whatnot are three plates because they are three facts. Sold means money moved. Giveaway means a free entry, not a purchase. Pull means a card was revealed and someone needs to know whose it is. If those share one red flash, chat will congratulate the wrong event and you will spend the next minute undoing it.
The seconds inside a hit are in Whatnot pull cards on stream. When the plate is allowed to move: animated vs static. This post is the set of three, and when to leave one of them out.
| Plate | Fires when | Must say | Must not say |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sold | A spot or item just sold | Sold, plus the spot or item | Winner, hit, or free |
| Giveaway | You are taking entries or naming a winner | Giveaway, and what the prize is | Sold, or a price |
| Pull | A card is up and a spot needs attaching | The card stays visible, plus the spot | A full-screen cover over the slab |
Sold is a receipt, not a celebration reel
Flash it, hold the word SOLD and the thing that sold, get back to the board. If you batch five sales and then play the plate once, nobody knows which of the five it was. The board update is the record. The plate is the glance.
Skip a sold plate on a quiet singles show where the item is still in your hand and Whatnot's own UI already shows the bid result. Add it when the room loses track. Do not add it because a template pack included one.
Giveaway gets its own beat
Run the giveaway, then put the plate away, then return to selling. A giveaway lower-third left up during the rip makes paid spots look like prizes. Name the prize. If you do not know the rules you are using tonight, do not put rules on the graphic. Say them, or skip the bit.
Skip giveaway art entirely if you do not run giveaways. An unused scene in the hotkey row will get hit by accident. Delete it until you need it.
Pull stays see-through of the card
The pull plate identifies the spot. It does not replace the card. If your sold plate and your pull plate are the same color and the same corner, change one word's weight so a glance can tell them apart. Motion can match. The end card cannot.
Build three scenes or build none
- Name OBS scenes SOLD, GIVEAWAY, PULL. Not 'alert'.
- Put a different end word on each. Test with the sound off.
- Hotkey them once before the show, including the path back to the live scene.
- Assign one person. Two fingers on the same key will double-fire.
- After the show, delete any scene you did not mean to keep.
These are OBS scenes. The phone app will not cycle custom plates for you. Who should not order the set: phone-only sellers and anyone who only needed a cleaner thumb. Who should: breakers whose chat mixes up sales, prizes, and hits. We ship the files. We do not press the key during your show. Service home: Whatnot overlays.
Name the scenes so a guest cannot miss
If a caller joins for one night, the scene list is their only training. SOLD, GIVEAWAY, and PULL in that vocabulary. A scene called 'hype' will be pressed on a base card. After they leave, look at the hotkeys before the next solo show. Guests love to remap things.
Fire each plate once into a recording and watch it next to the board. The plate should not be the only place the spot name exists. When it leaves, the board still has to be right. If the recording shows the plate covering the name, move the type before the show, not after chat asks.
Three fires, in order, on one rip
A spot sells. You fire SOLD, leave it up long enough to read the team, then take it down. The board cell is already claimed. Later you run a giveaway. You fire GIVEAWAY, take entries, award it, take the plate down, and return to the grid. A hit comes out. You fire PULL only after the card name and the spot are readable, hold it, then return to the grid. Three events. Three plates. The order is the whole system.
One animation for all three trains the room to clap at the wrong time. A sold spot is a receipt. A giveaway is a prize. A pull is a card that belongs to someone. If they share a burst, chat treats a base sale like a hit and treats a hit like a coupon. Build the three scenes or build none. A single 'hype' scene will be pressed on a base card the first time a guest is on the keys.
The pull plate has to stay see-through of the card. If the graphic covers the name, you are celebrating a slab nobody can read. The sold plate should not cover the board cell you just changed, or the receipt and the grid disagree. Name the scenes SOLD, GIVEAWAY, and PULL. Not 'hype,' not 'pop,' not 'special.' After a guest leaves, check the hotkeys before the next solo show.
| You fired | The room thinks | Correct plate |
|---|---|---|
| The pull burst on a sold base spot | A hit just happened | SOLD. Short. Then back to the grid. |
| The sold plate on a giveaway | Someone paid | GIVEAWAY. Take it down when the prize is awarded. |
| A full-screen pull over the card | Nothing. They cannot read the name. | A hold that leaves the card and the spot readable |
| Nothing, on a real hit | Whose spot was that | PULL with the spot name, then the grid still shows it |
Phone-only sellers should not order this set. The app will not cycle custom plates for you. Who should: breakers whose chat mixes up sales, prizes, and hits. We ship the files. We do not press the key during your show. One person owns the key. If two people can fire it, you will get both plates.
FAQ
Do I need separate sold, giveaway, and pull overlays?
Yes, if you do all three events. Each plate needs a different end word. If you only sell and rip, do not build a giveaway scene.
Can one animation cover all three?
Only if the still it lands on is different and obvious. The same red burst for a prize and a sale is how you get a dispute.
Should the pull overlay cover the card?
No. Cover the card and you hid the hit. Identify the spot beside a card people can already see.
What if I fire the wrong one?
Take it down immediately and say the correction in one sentence. Then rename the scene so it cannot happen the same way. Do not joke through it.
Is this the same as a break board?
No. The board is the list of spots. These plates are moments. The board should still be right when the plate goes away.
After the show, watch one minute where two events happened close together. If you cannot tell them apart with the sound off, the plates are still the same graphic with different hope. Change the end word and the color weight. Do it before the next show, while you still remember which key you hit by mistake.
